  1. Hi people,

I'm cofused about how to start to record my own dvds...
I have some videos (avi, divx, mpeg, etc) and I want to record all of them in a dvd to play in my dvd player.
I don't know what do I have to do first ... First do I have to convert all the files to DVD or autor the dvd? How is the best way to do that? Wich tools do you recomend?

    Thanks in advance!!!!

This post may give you some ideas. https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1348469#1348469

It's about MPEG files, but the answer is somewhat the same for mixed files. You need to get them DVD compliant. The methods are different for different types of files. If they are AVI, you need to encode them to MPEG-2. Divx or Xvid often use different audio formats. Those may need conversion also. Then there is PAL and NTSC framerates.

There's no general easy way to convert to DVD with mixed files. You just work your way through them, converting similar files first. Once Gspot or AVIcodec identify the file format, you figure out what process to use.

Lots of guides to the left to get you started.

For conversion tools, I use most often:

    AVIcodec (For file info)

Virtualdub Mod (The Swiss Army knife of AVI and some MPEG)

    FFDshow (To open Xvid, etc.)

Assorted codecs as needed (NO codec packs, please!)

    TMPGEnc encoder (Or similar)

    TMPGEnc DVD Author (Or similar)

    Nero (For burning)

    VLC Media player (For viewing)

And a few miscellaneous programs as needed. Good Luck.

I like things simple myself so keep it down for you. Two program first use Tpmgenc 3.0 Xpress...this well convert your files to a vcd, svcd, DVD mpg etc etc..after you have your dvd files you can use Tpmgenc DvD author to make your menus, chaptures etc and then it can also burn for you..there 2 programs - done

    Tpmgenc 3.0 Xpress
    Tpmgenc DvD Author

Keep in mind that with some video-files an MPEG2 encoder sometimes encounters problems. Install a good, full codec-pack 2b sure.

    good luck

Oh no! That's a sure fire way to wreck your system. Use GSpot to tell what codec is used for your source files, and if you have the codec needed. If not, download and install that (and only that) missing codec.
Many codec packs blindly installs a bunch of (often outdated) codecs, causing all kinds of conflicts and problems.
ffdshow is one codec to handle most AVI formats.
