Just bought a Liteon 5005 unit this weekend. Hooked it with my satellite receiver and TV(RF input/output) and also the composit cables from TV to the DVD recorder. While Iam able to still get all the channels on my TV, if I poweron the Liteon unit and press setup in the Remote, I can't get the setup screen. Stuck on what to do next. Any help appreciated.

So I can connect the RF out on my sat. receiver directly to the TV and bypass the RF in/out on the recorder. Will I be able to do TV/Sat recordings still. I notice a slight humming noise from the back of the recorder as soon as I hooked it up and powered it on.
BTW, I did connect the composite(white, yellow, red) out from the recorder into the corresponding TV input, but still not getting anything when pressing Setup on the remote(I don't think remote was a problem as I could power on/off, stop, change channels from the remote). May be a bad connection/cable? Should I get rid of the RF connection from the recorder and try again?

Yes, if you send the composite or s-video signal output of your sat receiver to the DVD recorder you should be able to record. The humming is probably the recorder's cooling fan. Try the composite output from the recorder into your TV again... making sure you have that input selected on your TV.

how do I make sure that the composite input on my TV is selected ? When I flip channel button my tv - just see AUX1,AUX2, cH002,003,004.
Do I have to go to setup on my TV?

let me get this strait, you hooked up the dvd recorder to your tv with a yellow composite cable? and you can see the different inputs on the recorder when pressing source on the remote, you can play movies, but the setup just wont come up? I'd say thats messed up, you should return it

  7. Probably Aux 1 or Aux 2 on your TV input is it. You should see the Lite-On output when one of those is selected, I would think.

I changed to AUX2 on the TV and I can do setup now.
My box says it is running the firmware 1098, is that the latest firmware for Liteon 5005(Feb 2005 date)?

I downloaded the latest firmware for my liteon from their webside - it was 1098.ES5(system update). If I go to ilohacker.tripod.com and apply the hack(3hr mode and regionfree) on the above firmware and update the recorder, it should work(my machine has the 1098x update - though not sure if it is the same as 1098.ES5. How do I get the macrovision hack?
