    i have something in the back of my computer it is the cable cord that would normally hook up my vcr to my tv

    For this hobby you need to do some reading first. Most of the basic questions can be answered in the 'Guides' to the left. <<<

    Also more information about your computer would be helpful. I see from your computer profile you don't know much about your system. A program like SIW would help show what is in your system. http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/SIW/1097934999/1 and allow you to complete your profile.

    If you have a capture card on your system, this will tell you what it is and you can let us know, otherwise follow lordsmurfs advice.

    Here is how I do it.

    VHS --> TV --> TV monitor out --> Hauppauge WinTV PVRUSB2.0 -->
    WinTV2000 --> HD in MPEG2 DVD compliant.

    Works very well.
