  1. I'm wanting to upgrade my Dell dimension 8200 ram from 256 to 512. I read on the dell website that in order to upgrade I have to remove all old memory and replace with all new. Is this true or can I just add more memory if I have the slots open?

you can just add more memory, there's no need to remove the old one unless you're having problems with it. check that you have available memory slots to add more memory.

I have an 8200 and that is not the case. You should open up your PC and check to see if there is a single 256mb chip or two 128 chips. The reason for this is you should upgrade in like increments. If you have two 128 chips then get two more. If one 256 chip then get one of those. Also make sure it is the SAME type of RAM. You can find that out from the DELL website or in your Owners Manual. As I recall it is 800 DDR Ram.

Eliminate the impossible. Whatever remains, no matter how improbable must be the answer.
