  1. Hopefully a simple question, all us guys converting our valuable vhs to dvd, will I presume be able to take those dvd's and easier than the vhs>dvd conversion, "convert" the dvd to HD-dvd in whatever format that takes.

    However, what benefit would waiting for the hd-dvd burners to arrive have, or does the inherent quality of the vhs, mean that straight to HD would have little benefit?

    The only difference is you get more hours on the DVD.

    VHS at best is "half D1" or 352x480 or 576 PAL interlaced (max 240x480 in lines of resolution analog terms). If you are concerned about future playback, don't skimp on processing these resolutions now.

    You might also consider that those VHS tapes will continue to deteriorate so the longer you wait, the harder it will be to restore/preserve.
