I rarely hit 3X on my system
Dell i8000
PIII 800
8X factory DVD
10 gog secondary HD
I thought it was just me
1:30 min movie takes about 30 - 40 min to rip with Smart Ripper 2.36 -
I have only used Toshiba for a long time. My drive is a getting old now, you can still find it - its the SD-M1402. The 1502 is out now.
Toshiba makes great DVD drives in my opinion, and have the added benefit of being able to make SafeDisc2 Images. -
I'm getting about the same speed as radallc.
Mine starts of at around 5.5X and ends off just over 10X. Of course this differs from DVD to DVD. Certain DVD's rip faster than others.
On average, most DVD's take me around 5 to 7 minutes to rip.
My drive is a Pioneer DVD-116. -
With my duron 700, ata100/7200 HD and my cheap cyberdrive DVD (made in china), I rip a dvd in about 8-10 min.
-
my speeds are 5.5-8.0
System
P3 1.2ghz
128 mbs of mem
Samsung or Pinoneer drive
-
It can take me up to 1 hour to rip a 2 hour DVD.
My system is PIII 667MHz and Creative DVD 12x.
I never hit any of the figures listed here except something similar to what 91BRAVO is getting.
What can I do/check/change on my system to make it go faster ? -
enable DMA on your Hard drive and DVD Drive...makes sure you have the latest drivers for both and a working ASPi layer
-
Bach, I second Pinoy's stab. Try enabling the DMA on your DVD (and harddrives).
-
Does anyone know who makes the Creative DVD 12X? If its anythign like their cd rom drives then I'd stay away from it!
A good, cheap DVD drive is the Lite-on 16X or the Aopen 16X.
-
I've got a Pioneer 106S, and it all depends on the movie, with some I get 5x and with some I get 9x, and I even hit the 14x in other movies (altough very rare).

I have a Sony DVD 12X and using SmartRipper 2.34 in Win2K I get 4.0-5.5, at best.
I have DMA enabled for both channels. As pinoy2201 pointed, a working ASPI layer may improve ripping.
How can I get a working ASPI layer in Win2K?
Thanks!

HP 9300 32-10-4
