MGM/Sony has mentioned that the Bond21 title (11/2005 release) will be "Casino Royale" (hope this isn't a remake of the David Niven film). But, they've been mum on who will play James Bond. A lot of rumors have circulated but none have been verified. One of them is that Brosnan has agreed to do it one more time for $40,000,000 ... which is a sum the studio is unwilling to pay. But, if you were in charge of casting, who would you want to see in the role?

I watched Pierce Brosnan in tv say in a quick interview that he would think Colin Ferrel would be good for the role.

I still like Pierce Brosnan to be in the role, he suits it well.

I voted for Pierce Brosnan just because he's the best since Connery.
BUT, I think Adrian Paul (not on your list) would make a great Bond. He's got the right look and already has the accent, has TONS of action/stunt experience, and ALMOST looks old enough.

Obi Wan Kenobe just doesn't look like a James Bond (WAY too young! for one thing)....
Neither does Sting (besides, he's an old man now)
Have never heard of a lot of the other folks on your list
but Hugh Jackman would be pretty good, although he's also not old enough
The "Casino Royale" with Woody Allen was awesome! tho I take it you weren't impressed...
"Casino Royale" was actually the FIRST Bond film, but it was a made-for-TV movie and has never been released on VHS or DVD (at least not that I've been able to find anywhere).
If you know where I can find it, let me know! It's supposed to be fantastic.

5 month old poll. Besides, mine has more choices. I wouldn't want to see him as a "regular" in future films but I would like to see Sting play James Bond just once.

I loved the film. But, it was a "comedy" of sorts ... and I believe the original novel was quite serious. I'd like to see a version true to the novel.

There was a made-for-TV movie in the mid to late 50's. it was black&white

Ahhh ... you're looking for this one then:

It was released only on PAL VHS and very hard to find. If you're searching for it, write down this ASIN number - B00004CQO3. But who knows, you might check out a few James Bond fan sites in the UK ... and someone may be able to burn you a DVD from the tape.

I wonder if MGM (since they did the 1954 film, too) could be prodded into releasing the new Casino Royale as a two-disc set ... with the original on the second disc?

    Hello,

I'm sure they would - anyway to promote a franchise like BOND and they'd jump at it.

I've sent you a PM. Check your box. It was released on NTSC VHS and only 4 new copies are left with this seller!!!

Edit - I've read on a fan site that this version actually added in cut scenes not available in the PAL VHS version. Makes this version even more special.

They switch manufacturers all the time. Started with the old DB5, had a Lotus Esprit in there somewhere, and then in recent years (short of the last one) with Brosnan it was varying BMWs. I was just making the connection between Clive Owen and BMW.

I wonder how long it will be until computer animation becomes sophisticated enough that characters can be presented virtually without any noticable animation artifacts. It would be nice to see future James Bond films starring a "virtual" Sean Connery, interacting with either real characters or other virtual characters.

How many years down the road is that level of sophistication?

    Hello,

Well in Episode 2 many of the stunts were by "DIGITAL STUNT DOUBLES".

And in LORD OF THE RINGS many of the close up ORCS were all cg. Check out TWO TOWERS and the build up to the HELMS DEEP battle. Theres a floating shot of several ORCS and they're all CG. Huge in the frame and close up but not real.

Oh and another thing - all the clone troopers in EPISODE 2 are CG!! No suit was ever built for ATOC.

    OH one more thing:

Check out FINAL FANTASY - The spirit within. It's the first mo-cap realistic CG movie depicting humans. VERY eerie but clean imaging.

Also - Check out the ANIMATRIX - I believe its the FLIGHT OF THE OSIRIS which has CG characters that are realistic.

    It's getting closer.

That is a horrendous thought, having someone else bring to the role, via digital means, something Connery only himself could do.
You can't reproduce the unique ability of an actor in a specific role.
Sure, you can reproduce his face and to a certain extent his voice, but nothing else.

I see your point. But, that would depend on the actor behind the virtual persona. Let's face it, that's all actors do ... play other people (real or fictional). Some actors can portray real people quite well. Others cannot. And, while it would be sad to see a "virtual" James Bond played by an actor who has no handle on Connery's persona, it would be fantastic to see a virtual James Bond played by an actor who could get Connery right.

It all depends on the actor.

BTW, for anyone interested, there were 4 "new" copies of the "Casino Royale" VHS tape (NTSC) orderable direct from Amazon.com when I checked a few days ago. As of a minute ago, there is now only 1 new copy left.

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6304867514/

There are 5 others available from Amazon Marketplace resellers, though.

P.S. On my earlier post regarding a "virtual" Sean Connery, it occurred to me that if the technology comes about quick enough, the James Bond character could be played by the "real" Sean Connery behind his virtual mask.

Definitely. I just visited their site and didn't see anything I didn't like:

    http://www.tvr-eng.co.uk

I wonder if they'd consider donating a car to the filmmaker? I imagine all Bond cars are "given away" to the studio and considered a marketing tool.

[Edit] - Just for the heck of it, I sent an email to TVR's sales people as a trial balloon ... just to see if they've considered it. Since the film is still in pre-production, now might be a good time for them to consider offering up a car for the film. Really, when's the last time James Bond drove a "British" car?

You can tell. the battles looked awful.

I don't think digital actors will ever be prefferable to the real thing. Humans are very good at detecting and interpreting emotion from other human faces. we can also tell if people are faking it, i don't think a coputer will be able to simulate it well enough.
