    Jude Law is my pick.

Quentin Tarentino was trying to get the job of directing "Casino Royale" which, if made, will be a direct adaptation of the book and not like the spoof starring David Niven.

Yeah, I heard about Tarentino. He might do a good rendering, too. I've heard he has a "reverence" for Ian Fleming. I also heard that Sean Connery himself has considered the possibility of directing.

The last British car that Bond drove was in the last movie, the Aston Martin Vanquish. I guess you could argue that it isn't a true British car company anymore since I think they're somehow owned by Ford. Otherwise it was the old Astons or the Lotus. Maybe he should go back to driving an Esprit? I gotta admit I love the cars from Blackpool though. TVR is right up there with Ferrari for beautiful, fast cars.

I vote for one of these three:

    Pauly Shore
    Danny DeVito
Paul Reubens aka "Pee Wee Herman"

I'd go for that. But now, he's in a movie that's currently filming ... and signed to another film in production limbo. He might be in the same situation as Pierce Brosnan was ... tied to his "Remington Steele" contract at they time they first wanted him to do Bond.

And, it would be Jason's "second" Bondish film ... having played Ian Fleming in the "Secret Life Of Ian Fleming."

P.S. Some trivia. Fleming didn't channel his writing energies exclusively to the spy novel:

he shares writing credits on that movie with Roald Dahl
Dahl wrote the screenplay for You Only Live Twice, but is better known for his childrens books, including: Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, James & the Giant Peach, The BFG (which is freakin' AWESOME!), The Witches, Matilda, and Willy Wonka and the Great Glass Elevator.

UPDATE - A news leak mentioned the following two things:

    1) Martin Campbell (Goldeneye) will direct "Casino Royale." Among the cast will be Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, and Clive Owen ... but no word on which of the three will play Bond (yet).

    2) The next James Bond film after "Casino Royale" will be a prequel, starring Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Carribean) as a young James Bond, studying at Eton, and developing skills as an amateur spy.

The "official" announcement will be in the "trades" over the next week but all evidence points toward Clive Owen being the next James Bond:

For the last six months or so, Clive Owen has been linked to the role of Bond, but we here at the Hollywood News have been bigging the big man up since he appeared in those really cool BMW ads, 'The Hire'. Well, apparently, according to a few sources, it's a done deal that he will be Bond!!!

The best source is from the man himself, on the red carpet for the World Premiere of Sin City in Westwood, CA, last night. The IESB were there, where they bagged the scoop.

"Yes or no to Bond," we asked. He said this while nodding his head 'yes', "I will be busy for a while" and then our colleauge next to us asked again, "any truth to the James Bond rumors?" "I'll be busy for a while," he repeated with a grin and smile. These two things alone would not lead me beleive that he will be James Bond, though it appears that he was hinting to a yes, but instead what happened off camera with an associate close to Clive.

What that associate did say is up at the IESB, who also have the video to back up their claims, just click it here to go see.

An offcial announcement is due in the trades later this week.

Martin Campbell, who directed Owen in Beyond Borders is helming the 21st Bond movie, Casino Royale.

I figured he would get it. He is the look and sound of a James Bond, plus he has all that residual coolness from the BMW films.

Or ... it could be that MGM/Sony is pulling the biggest April Fools joke of all. The earlier Sify.com article alluded to the fact that Clive Owen, Jude Law, and Ewan McGregor had signed to play roles in "Casino Royale." And, it was natural to assume that one of them would be Bond. But "bookmakers" are taking heavy bets that it will be someone else altogether. After all, Bond doesn't have to be played by a British actor, just an actor with a British accent. Click on the actor's photo below to read about the bookmaker's choice. And be sure to click on the "Warning" in the purple box for the spoiler:

How do they decide which one to chose? Is it screen tests only?

Only the studio could answer that. But, I suspect it's more money and longevity related ... the best actor they can lock into the longest contract for the least money.

The next James Bond movie will star Pierce Brosnan again (I wonder how much they paid him). This word comes from Judi Dench (M):

    Hi,

Whew.... that's good - we can wait at least another movie before we have to break in another bond

Though I still think Hugh Jackman would make a good one

I knew that Brosnan wanted to do it again, but was very reluctant because he had torn himself up so much doing the last two...
I'm glad he'll be returning for one more!
Though I will always think of Sean Connery as 'the original' James Bond, Brosnan is a close contender for 'best Bond' - as far as I'm concerned, it's between him & Connery.

I still feel that Adrian Paul is the perfect choice for the next Bond.
Already had the accent , definitely has the "Bond" look, and by the time they would start production on Casino Royale's follow-up, he will look 'old enough' as well.

  22. It's kind of strange to look at Adrian Paul without a sword...
It's like... when you see Mark Hamill someplace you scream... HEY EVERYBODY, IT'S LUKE!!! :P
It's that kind of role that haunts you forever. (And I like him in Highlander, he rocks!)

But I agree with Xylob, he would be a really good choice for Bond.

My name is Bond... James Bond..... AND THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!!!!.... (insert slash sound here).... see?... this thoughts again!

  24. As long as they go back to the old style of making Bond films. I nearly retched watching the latest one with all the dodgy special effects and crap storyline.
