There are some actors and actresses that rub us all the wrong way ... in some cases, to a point where we won't see a film if they're in it. There is one actor that comes to mind immediately for me ... Jim Carrey. I didn't even like the guy when he was with "In Living Color." His pet detective movies were lame. And some of his other film roles (Grinch, Batman, etc.) made me wince at his appearances in them.

Who is it that you can't stand in film?

  2. I'm not a big fan of Jim Carrey too. I do not hate him or disslike him in any way just not into his comedy.

    Al Pacino

    Jane Fonda

    Jean Reno

    Tom Cruise

    Richard Gere

    George Clooney

    Brad Pitt

    Ben Affleck

    Steven Seagal

    Harry Connick Jr.

    Sean Penn

    Tim Robbins

    Susan Sarandon

    Matt Damon

    Barbra Streisand

Some people I just flat out hate them as people, and some others I just not into there acting.

Huh, so you pretty much hate every big-name actor? Seems too easy.

I can't stand Julia Roberts. I finally liked her in Closer but I never liked her before. Everyone was always saying how beautiful she is but I think she looks like she got smacked around by the ugly stick. Her acting was OK but it seems like those wierd looks are what carried her.

Other than that I can't think of any others. There are instances when I don't like an actor/actress from a role they've done but usually they make up for it somewhere else, or they're just not noticeable either way.

It's a good thing that I am not a talent agent. Jim Carey would have never worked if he where my client. The funny thing is that there is actually more talent in most of these actors than we realize at first. I think that we are put off by the hype about how great or funny these actors are and it may only come to our attention way later in their career. I always thought that Carey was just too much stupid slapstick and pratfalls until the Grinch ( I thought it was a good flick for what it was) Or maybe I resent actors that come on as too full of themselves. Give him a serious role like a one legged veteran trying to put his life back together or something and he may be able to pull it off. (The role I mean, not the leg.)

I often wonder how much of a flick is actually the actor and how much is the role or the director or even the budget. Sometimes you have to sit back and enjoy the flick for what is meant to be, entertainment.

On a side note, I always enjoyed DeNeros' work, until I saw Cape Fear. I really hated him in that role, what a low life, what an *******. And then I realized, what an actor, now there is some talent. He made me forget that it was a flick, I took it personaly, he made me feel, and got me involved in the flick!

Julia Roberts. She's an OK actress just can't stand all the "most beautiful woman alive" stuff.

Tom Cruise. I actually liked him as Lestat and Vincent but too much hype, like Julia.

    Ashton Kutcher. Enough said.

Nicole Kidman. 10x worse than Julia. How many more times am I going to hear how she goes the extra step for a role by putting on a fake nose that makes her look ugly? What courage she must have to do that. She sacrifices her looks for the part. Wow!

    Vin Diesel.

    Jennifer Lopez.

    Jimmy Fallon.

Paris Hilton. How is it that she is an actress?
    His name was MackemX

Me, too. I still think Spielberg blew it by not doing an "ET: The Return" movie ... showing Drew all grown up and with her own kids ... as ET returns to find her. He still has a chance, though. Drew is still a young hottie, would fit the role of a young mother, and would be believable in reprising her "Gertie" role from the 1982 classic film.

Can't stand Julia Roberts - far too much hype.

    Really don't like Jennifer Lopez...

I originally liked DiCaprio, first time I saw him was in "What's eating Gilbert Grape" - excelent film and he played a great part. Currently I'm on the fence, there's definitely too much hype but he's had some good parts.

Anyone who is on screen because of connections or family and not through ability.

Example: Catherine Zeta Jones, a British bit-part and sit-com actress, is suddenly taken seriously and offered prime roles in Hollywood after she starts sleeping with someone old enough to be her father, Michael Douglas. Again, a talentless nobody who is on screen because of family connections, Kirk Douglas.

I can't stand Jim Currey and Nicole Kidman.

I am not into his comedy.

I reckon Nicole Kidman is too much as over exposed in the media.

There is too much about her in the papers, the TV and too many movies of her.

I do get sick of her.

There is a pop star in Australia as I can't stand for the same reason as Nicole.

I am not keen on her music either.

Her name is Delta Goodrem as in the media just about every day here.

I am sick of seeing her photos all the time as too much.

She is in America now trying for pop stardom success and I don’t feel will be promising for her.

The competition will be too hard for her as an unknown.

    Actors:

    Leanardo DeCrapprio
    Amilio Esteves
    Sean Penn
    Austin Kutcher
    Ben Stiller

    Actresses:

    Drew Barrymore
    Kathleen Turner
    awww hell, it's a list

Would be easier to give actor/actresses I like.

  15. It's funny wherever this question comes up, the names on most's lists are usually who were already mentioned

For me, it's not really that big of a deal, 'cause I don't watch a lot of newer mainstream movies or shows.

I think it's hardest for me to sit through any movie with Tom Cruise.
I also can't sit through most Sylvester Stallone movies.

Don't really hate the guys...just hard to take what they do seriously.

    Really annoying people are:

    Gilbert Gottfried
    James Spader
    David Spade
    Bob Saget
    Judy Tenuta
    Sam Kinison
    Britney Spears
    Elton John
    Tom Arnold
    Roseanne (Arnold/Barr)

    and most annoying....Mary Hart

The media is what's really bad.

I guess I can see why a lot of people don't like Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda or Susan Sarandon...but they don't really bother me...at least not from their earlier careers. They were at least in some good movies.

Apart from that I can't really think of any actor/actress who would put me off seeing a movie.

I think a better question would be: actors or actresses that make you see a movie.

For example, if Samuel Jackson is in a movie I'll rent it.

I guess I should word that as actors or actresses that sell movies.

These two would be my female choices.

As far as males go: The Baldwins. Take your pick, they all suck. I don't understand how they can even find work.

Ben Affleck is pretty lame, too.

I got to say that can't stand is a bit harsh, but annoying as hell is a good topic. Rookie 64 hit it about right with Kinison and Godfrey. I would add Carrot Top and Pauly Shore. I hate to go against Baldrick being that he holds the power over my escape, but I kind of like Helen Hunt. (Or at least she has a spot in my bizzar fantasies)

Totally agree on your choice of Samuel Jackson - except he's not going to get me to see Revenge of the Sith, if he were in a lead role then possibly...

Another one that get's me into a theatre is Morgan Freeman.

<you can add Salma Hayek - but not for acting reasons...>

Yep, I know on both counts. But he still annoyed me. I mean after seeing one screeming act how much more do you need? The first time it may have worked because it was fresh but he tended to drag it out.

Lucy Ball was another one that I never really cared for. Maybe back then it was cutting edge.
