Just wondering if the Pioneer DV-440 plays VCD's & SVCD's as well as the DV-343.

I noticed in the compatibility list that the DV-444 plays XSVCD but the DV-440 doesn't. Odd since the 444 is the same except progressive scan. Is this really the case?
