i'm trying to network this printer, but it doesnt seem like hp wanted to let you share this one over a network.

    here is the link to the driver page for it;

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?dlc=en&lc=en&product=374568&lang=en&cc=us&os=228#

notice that? "no network support".. asses..

i've got the original driver installation cd, which i tried first, but that doesnt help with getting it networked either..

am i screwed here? or is there some kind of ingenious 3rd party fix/software out there that will let me do this?

  2. Have you actually tried sharing it over a network? If so, what steps did you do?

I'm pretty sure that this is the printer that my parents have and I'm also pretty sure that I have shared it without issue.

    Regards.

"No network support" means it doesn't include it's own network adapter. Even when you do share it, you'll more than likely only be able to share printing, not scanning.

Give us a little more info on your 'network.'

What OS is the 'server' PC running?

What OS is the 'client' machine running?

What network protocols do you already have installed on each machine? Window$ networking may seem a bit tricky at first but it's really not all that difficult.

both server and client are running windows xp professional w/ service pack 2 (and all hotfixes), both have the windows firewall disabled with no 3rd party firewall or anti-virus installed. i have enabled windows file & printer sharing on both machines.. files share just fine.. the client is able to see the shared printer, and even "install" it, but the printer never reacts when a document is printed from the client side.. from the server side it works just fine.

the network is pretty basic, both wired to a d-link cable/dsl router.

    any more info needed?

    any ideas?

You might want to try opening up the print queue on the server while sending a job from the client to see if anything shows up. Also have the queue open on the client to see if you see any jobs pop up. I'd also recommend (with both queues open) printing a job from the server to find out if you can see it on the client.

I hate to ask, but what method did you use to install it on the client machine?

Ugh, I hate when this happens.

Well, trying to troubleshoot this remotely ... did you install the printer drivers on the client machine by connecting to the server, clicking on the printer, and then you got the message that you need to install the drivers from the server? If that made sense? Because sometimes that just doesn't work right, the drivers get fubar'd in the process.

What I'd try, is uninstall the printer from the client machine, and when it asks if you want to unistall the drivers for the printer because they're no longer being used, go ahead and uninstall. Then reinstall the printer drivers in the same way you did on the server computer (e.g. use the CD-ROM, or download the files from HP's site or copy the installer files from the master computer, where you downloaded them).

Just install this as a local printer, use the LPT port as the default, ignore any warning messages if it can't find the printer (don't use the "automatically find printer" option, do it all manually), and don't try to print a test page. Once you've reinstalled the printer drivers on the client computer, connect to the server/master computer from the client computer and select the printer again. You'll end up with two printers in your printer setup -- the HP printer on local (LPT), and the HP printer on whatever your other computer is called. Then go ahead and delete the local (LPT) printer, we just used it as a place holder.

Then try to print. Hopefully, it'll work. Report back on your progress, please!
