  1. Where can you buy the Dual layer DVD's?

    I've been to a few stores around and can't seem to find any.

    Thanks

    www.amazon.com might still have their 3 DVD+R DL Verbatim for $15 (after rebate) deal up. I think that's the best deal you'll find...

    I get all my burnable media from Meritline/CDRDVDRMedia. The latter is having a sale on Ritek DLs through May 4th. $30 off a spindle of 25 or more. Spindle of 25 is $144 before the coupon so that's roughly $4.50 a disc, and they're Riteks.

    Otherwise I've been using Zomax for my DL DVD for the past three years. Nothing beats a pressed DVD for compatability with all DVD players. But of course that probably doesn't help you DL n00bs

    Me hears that Ritek DVD+R DL sucks the big one. Hope you didn't buy 25 expensive coasters...

    I'm not Dling, I'm backing up kids dvd's and they want all the stupid menus and other crap that's on those dvd's. DVDshrink compresses some of the movies by 50% to fit everything on 4.4gig media. That's too much for me and for some reason my dvd player (DVP642) gets hung up and shutsoff when compressed that much.

    DL = dual layer

    Fact of the matter is pretty much all DVD-DL suck right now. I'm not purchasing any burnable DVD-DL until it becomes FAR more mainstream. I don't care how much my customers whine about wanting DL bitrates and playtimes. If they want it they can put up the order large enough to send it to be pressed. So far I've only had 4 different companies request DL media for their sales/training packets and they put up the 500+ disc order required for it to be pressed. You know how much I pay per dual-layer DVD at that volume? $1.20 8) (factoring in film creation and setup)

    I wouldn't go that far. Verbatim makes some high quality stuff. I've yet to see a DVD player reject it. Layer transitions seem to be more seemless than my originals. Obviously no recordable could touch a pressed DVD, but if you don't have the bennies to pony up for a 500+ pressed order then paying $5 per DVD+R DL isn't that bad of a option.
