  1. hi could anyone help me? i have a vid on my pc which i had for some time but now it wont play saying windows media cant play and needs to shut down. when i see more details it says its because of "rmp4.dll". i have no idea what this means and cant remember adding or removing any codecs. any help would be much appreciated. also when i come to watch a recorded dvd on my dvd player it seems blocky and in the wrong screen ratio, is this normal?? again any help would be appreciated.

  4. after loading gspot it says its an avi file working on divx5.0. i do have the realmagic codec but every time i remove it it installs itself again. how do i permanently delete it??

  5. Set your windows explorer to show all the extensions - it seems you don't know that it is avi, because you are not able to see the extension. About realmagic I don't know - never installed crap in my computer.

My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View. Uncheck "Hide extensions for know file types".

  8. Hi,
I will try, but my windows is in german language, so I will try to translate
    Click MyComputer->Extras->Folder options.
Click on View tab and uncheck Hide extensions for known files.
    Hope I translated it correctly
    Ha, I typed very slowly

Which is exactly why I don't put any realnetworks, piece of crap, spyware on my computer.

Maybe someone here can help you go into the registry and get rid of all that crap.

First, you'll need to get rid of RealPlayer.

It has nothing to do with real. Sigma designs released it, however as it turned out it was just XviD with a different GUI. They got busted, denied it, removed the copyrights, got busted again and then finally just made it opensource.

Why anyone would install it though, I don't know.

Real's stuff these days is ok.

They'll never convince me. I use Media Player Classic with RealAlternative if I absolutely have to see a RM file but if it's a newer file that will only play on Realplayer 10 or whatever it is now, I'll pass on it.

I have the same feelings towards Windows Media Player also. Nothing newer than 6.4 will ever touch my machines.

Odd that they have realalternative linked here since it is classed as warez.

Yes, realalternative is classed as warez. It is an illegal distribution of copyrighted dll's. Just because something is free (real codecs) does not mean you can do whatever you want with it and distribute as you see fit. You are bound by the license.

Unless real networks complain, I can't see a problem.
