I'm having some problems coping some DVD's. I'm using the latest versions of DVD shrink & DVD decripter. On some DVD's when I'm copying the ISO image to my hard drive, I see in the video preview the movie freezes. Then it unfreezes & the buffered number starts to get high & higher. Untill it stops with this error:
"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
Out of memory
Not enough storage is available to process this command"
Then I tried DVD decripter. It will copy all the way but I get tons of "pack header not found messages" It will burn, but then when I'm playing the movie will freeze & I can't do anything but eject the disk.
The DVD's are clean & not scratched up. I have tried different settings, without the preview & with & nothing seems to work.
Not all DVD's do this. I'm using the same Phillips DVD+R disks, & have also used dual layer disks with the same problems. I don't think it's a media problme cause it's having problems just copying to the hd.
I have plenty of HD space & memory. I'm running Win2K with all updates, & the burn PC is not even on the internet, so it's spayware & virus free. I'm not running anything else on it. My drives are a Sony DDU-1622 DVD drive & a Sony DRU-720A burner.
Any ideas?
Thanks

What version of DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are you using?
Make sure your using the latest version.
For reference, I use DVD Decrypter as the ripping software and DVD Shrink as the encoding and burning software. -
I'm not near the pc now. Forgot what versions they are, but they are the latest ones I know for sure. Since it's a ripping problem & not burning. I have to suspect the HD or PC.

I assume you've tried ripping using both drives. Although it's not recommended, I've found that ripping is quicker and more efficient when using a burner than just a DVD-Rom Drive. With the low pricetag on burners these days, even if it dies due to overuse, you can always replace it for less price than a package of media.
I'd definitely check your versions though. You may find an even newer version a day after upgrading. -
Try ripping in "file" mode with DVD Decrypter. From what I'm gathering you are using ISO mode. Then use Shrink, to compress, and have Shrink use Decryptor to burn in ISO mode. Oh, and ditch the Philips DVD+R's they suck. Use better media.

Are you sure you have plenty HDD space ? I notice from your profile you only have 35gig HDD, it doesn't take much to fill that up you know. Check that again. You could be on the limit without realising, hence the "not enough storage space" message on some dvd rips. Also you have 650mb ram ? I thought it went 128-256-512mb ? How can you have 650 ? Something ain't right with your computer set up I thinks.
Also, it shouldn't really matter in this instance if its an earlier version of Decrypter or Shrink. -
That is 35Gigs of free space, it's 640 ram. 512+128
I'm actually an IT guy with many years of experience. So I know my way around a pc. DVD buring(at least movies) is new to me though.
3.5.40 decrypter
3.2.0.15 dvdshrink
Haven't had a problem with the phillips media. The next batch of disks I got are Memorex dvd-R's
I have tried unticking preview & keeping it on, no difference.
I haven't tried file mode, or ripping using the burner. I'll try those. I also swapped the IDE cable. -
Does your burner need a firmware upgrade? Check the disc packaging to see if it requires new firmware.

See if any of the suggestions here help: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48842.
It doesn't matter who you vote for. The government always gets in. -
Try uninstalling the drive and then reinstall. Cant hurt.

Solve your ripping problem than get your self a spindle of REAL TYs and you will at least eliminate the bad media variable.
If you can't properly rip ANY disk then it is a PC/Harware problem. If is just on some of the disks, then it is the disks. Even when they look pristine the can cause ripping problems. It's happened to me and yet I can rip a disk that is covered in light scratches without a hitch. That's what makes this whole thing fun as well making pull out your hair. I'm BALD, so I knowNo DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!
