  1. Hello all,

Got a little problem loading Diablo 2. Got a little bored. Wanted some mindless entertainment so what better than Diablo, eh? I have played it on this computer before, albeit before a recent format.

Anywho, its a AMD 2000+, KT4V MB, 512mb ram, Gforce 3 Ti200 video card with the same Nvidia drivers that I have had for the last 6 months or so from the nvidia site (version 60 I think, but not sure).

I installed the game. When I click on the icon to play, the screen goes black and nothing happens. In task manager it shows as not responding. I installed direct x 8, same thing. What gives? I tried another game (Call of Duty) and it works fine.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    LG

  4. Alrighty. I'll do the update route. I should mention though that the last time I installed it (say 6 months ago), I never ran any updates and it worked fine.

But I will do it and let ya know.

    Thanks,
    LG

One other possibility is if you have a later version of XP SP1 or above. The indeo codecs are not included with those releases and some splash screens require the codec to play. If they were installed with something you previously installed but are no longer present because of the reinstall of XP it may pose a problem if they are required for the splash screen.

This is supposed to be the codecs I got form another page that listed this link as being them, otherwise you now have to purchase them from indeo.

    mindless, time destroying videogames?

well if you have some good tunes you can put on the stereo at the same time - or not, if you prefer entranced silence - oldskool Railroad Tycoon, Civilisation, F19 Stealth Fighter and, naturally, Grand Theft Auto 1 do it for me every time.

RT is a particular time killer, but unless it was purposely engineered with a megaman level of difficulty, i think i have a duff copy - i can't get the company to make a cent no matter how hard i try, without cheating (or exploiting the fact it only uses a 16 bit number to store your bank balance, and overflows to $32,000,000 after hitting -$32,000,000)

plus, apart from GTA, they're simple enough that you can probably copy them to a pocket calculator and still have a satisfying game (GTA needs about a P75, otherwise known as "my laptop" - or a DX2/66 at a stretch).

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!

You could also try running it in compatability mode for say, Win2k, or turn off visual styles for it. These seem to fix many ills for older software.
