DEFINITELY can't play any of it on my powerbook 667mhz.

Theyre about as stiff/jerky on my PB 667 as Apple Pixlet video. I hate to say it but my laptop is showing its age badly! And now with Tiger, the fan runs a LOT.

It seems the minimum hardware is 2 GHz G4 or a 1.8 GHz G5. I guess this may also apply to using the new codec (at least without giving up use of the computer to the process).

How is H.264 at non-HD quality (like SD DVD-quality) or even lower? Looks like I need to buy this Pro key (damn).

They play fine at regular size on my dual 1Ghz G4, but the 1080p versions are choppy. They look gorgeous though. The "Fantastic 4" trailer looks like crap though. It looks blurry to me... pointless.
