    hello, i need to capture video that is playing from powerdvd ... ive tried snagit, but all i get it a black screen. Any other options? thanks a bunch

    I don't know of an app to do that, but why? You are either playing a DVD or a file so you should be able to either archive and edit the DVD or edit the file.

    the dvd is scratched & im unable to rip the files off of it..but it plays fine.. so i was going to capture the video ... (it's a dvd with music videos)

    hey moviegeek.. i ran through your entire guide(which is terrific), but unfortunately it did not work for me.. if the dvd plays fine i dont see why i cant rip it.. but oh well.. i thank you for your time

    Can you play ALL of it. ALL the extras, ALL the menus, ALL the soundtracks etc.

    When you rip, you may well be trying to rip the whole disk, but one of the 'unwanted' bits is where the scratches lie. Try ripping main movie only.

    Also, mpeg/DVD allows for a certain amount of errors when playing that are not noticeable, a ripper tries to get ALL the data for a bit exact copy, so that may also be the problem.
