I have a friend whose hobby is photographing wildlife and he is currently using a Sony G420 with his computer to manipulate and touchup his digital images. His eyesight isn't what it used to be and he would like to replace/supplement the Sony with a larger monitor. I thought this unit wouldn't break his bank and he could connect an antenna feed and DVD unit on it as well. The reviews are mostly good, with the remote being one of the biggest sore spots. Additionally he could use it in conjunction with his current monitor it seems. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts about this monitor??

It's primarily a TV, not a Computer monitor. Text will be larger (large pixels) but less sharp.

Read this thread for the basic issues and ask again.

I suggest you demo the unit before buying.

This Olevia LCD TV would be an excellent choice for your friend. Text in word documents and websites is larger and as clear as that on computer monitors.

I'm writing this message with my Olevia 30" model from six feet away using a wireless keyboard and mouse. There is no problem at all in reading the text on the screen.

Imagine viewing this webpage spread across on a monitor screen of 30" diagonal.

I have a 17" monitor that is hooked to a second SFF computer, and I frequently had to do the CTRL key + mouse wheel to increase the size of text on a webpage in order to read it. However, I don't need to do it with the Olevia.

Also, I my opinion the Olevia 27" model is an excellent bargain at $900 or less; the 30" Olevia is a great value at $1100 or less.

This is a very nice unit. I have the 27" and just picked it up a couple of weeks ago for $605 After Rebate/Coupon at CompUSA. Some deals can be had on it now that the new model is out.
