    All -

I apologize in advance for being such a "newbie" and asking this simple question. I've done some research on this board and would like to make sure what the proper solution is to my problem.

The channels (both HD and non-HD) are slightly fuzzy where it seems to blur or have a slight catch up time during on-screen movements. I've tested the TV with my XBOX 360 and my DVD player and am not having the same issue. From what I've seen on the board, I need to either get an HD cable or a smart card for my cable box. Is it safe to assume that once I get these two things the problem will go away? Or is there perhaps another solution? Thanks!

Is the comcast box a HD box ?

have you set it up for 1080i and 720p output ?

some cable (a lot) is very high compression even on hd channels -- never going to ook perfect ...

also what is your signal level of your cable line ?

The Comcast box says it's HD capable, however, we do not have the additional HD service from Comcast. Unfortunately, I don't even know how to set it up for the 1080i and 720p output.

go into the start up menu and see what it will output ... or

call comcast and just ask them

without knowing what kind of box it is and what os it is running -- i cant give you more detailed directions

Does the cable box look like this?

If so and you have HD service set menu
    TV Type = 16:9
YPbPr Output = 1080i or 720p whichever looks better
    4:3 Override = 480p

If you can't get HD to work use 480p
    TV Type = 16:9
    YPbPr Output = 480p
    4:3 Override = 480p

OK here's my update. I just switched out the box and hooked up the HDMI cable. However, still having the same problem. I don't know if my expectation is too high and this is the picture I'm supposed to get, but it seems to be fuzzier than I had anticipated. Any advice on what to do now that I have the HDMI cable and it is plugged into the cable box?

I have this exact set, olevia 232v. It was $424 at Circuit city about ten days ago and a buddy and I both bought them. We both have several makes of hd lcds and the 232 are as good or better including on SD content. It beats the pants off my buddy's vizio and holds up pretty well against my samsung considering them massive price difference.

I don't know if that's good news to hear or not. It seems like a great deal but the fact I'm battling with less than perfect clarity is troubling. What settings do you have it on?

its called, approperatly, "Motion Blur" its due to the fact that the panels that they use in those tv's have a typical response time of around 12ms. the use of a digital connection like HDMI will help, but only slightly. this is common to all lcds to some extent, but some people notice it more than others. just like DLP rainbows.

Does a progressive 480p DVD look any better or worse?

Did you try 720p out of the cable box? That forces the cable box to do the deinterlace.

so because they're 8ms as opposed to 12ms there is a slight motion blur that I'm going to have to live with? There is a difference between TV channels and viewing DVDs/Xbox-360 games - the picture is clearer for the latter.

Are you sure its LCD lag and not deinterlace blurring? To see LCD lag only test with a progressive DVD (high quality movie) playing in a progressive DVD player in 480p/59.94 over analog component or HDMI. If you still see blur, that is LCD lag.

Another way is to directly tune OTA (not cable or satellite) an ABC or FOX 720p/59.94 sports broadcast.

If you happened to read this, much Later.

To enter the HD service Menu the cable box must be turned "Off", TV must be "On" and in the Input that corresponds to the Cable Box(i.e. YPbPr-Component, HDMI, or DVI) and you must press the menu button on the Front of the Comcast HD Capable Box.

Then the gray Service Menu screen will appear.

Once you are done with the above settings, to your preferences, then you press the menu button on the Front of the Comcast HD Capable Box to exit the gray Service Menu.

    I hope this helps!

    Later,
    The Cobe
