    Hi all im kind of new to this but i was wondering if someone can help me getting started.I have just captured 3 60min. tapes from my sony hanycam dv to our computer using Pinaccle studio 9 and would like to know what is the best coversion method to burn it to1 or 2 dvds ,since the existing format is way to big,i have gone throug some threads in this forum but stil abit confused, so any help regarding how,software and so on would be very much apreciated.The DVD would be mostly for family to watch on tv and most of the footage taken is family xcursions.

    Do you need everything on the tapes ? For three hours of tape you can probably get less than an hour of footage people will sit and watch. If you can edit the whole lot down to less than 90 minutes, then one disk will do the job.

    You will need

    1. mpeg2 encoder - tmpgenc, cce basic or procoder express are all good options
    2. DVD authoring program - tmpgenc DVD author is easy to use

    Edit in pinnacle 9, output to DV. Encode to mpeg 2 using the bitrate calculator on this site (see the tools section to find it) to get the correct settings for your runtime. Author to DVD with a couple of simple menus. Burn to DVD RW and test. When happy, burn to DVD-/+R (I like TDK Armoured Disks for special family occasions) and be proud.
