I have been using vobsub for watching avi's on my computer and has been working fine till i downloaded the divxcodec431 which i needed to open certain avi in virtualdub for framserving. Now, everytime i play an avi i get an error message saying windows media has encountered a problem and needs to close. Any ideas how i can resolve this problem?

I did what you said but when i went to virtualdub and i tried opening an avi it came out with this:
couldnt locate decompressor for format 'div3' (microsoft high-speed mpeg-4 c3 [hack: divX Low-Motion]) -
Download and install DivX 5.x or XviD codec (you can install both if you want but I would suggest to install only one of them to keep it simply)
