Hello,
Wow I've been here for nearly a year (this june). I love this site. It has so much info in it that you can read forever and still not be an expert on every topic in video production. Once I found OFF TOPIC I've ventured less and less into the main forums but I still try to contribute when I can.
The people I've met here in OT have been very nice for the most part. The list is long and cherished. And for those I've actually spoken too via skype has meant a lot too. Its the companionship you get when you converse with someone over the months and weeks....
So what keeps you coming back??????
Kevin

It all started out as a study on the "addictiveness of internet fourms" But somehow I got hooked!
Actually for me it provides educational entertainment. If you stand back and look, this site has it all. Current news, obscure news, sales reports, product reveiws, new product announcements, dry humor, risque humor, success stories, failures and more drama than you can get from Jerry Springer

This site has alot of info. Though there are alot of forums out there, this seems to be the popular one.
Also, a place to chill out in OT. -

I started here when it was VCDHELP.COM, but never signed for an account until last year. Most of the time, I was reading about conversions, ripping methods and stuff, you know the rest. One day I found OT and since then, I spend most of the time on the site here.

I originally signed on to learn how to copy DVD. It is complicating, confusing, and I gave up. But I seem to always come back to the Off Topic section. I must say, I do overuse the Off Topic system, but I don't know why I keep coming back. I guess I always got something to say.

Kevin,
I come here as an alternative to the other online forum in Australia.
I like it here and this place I got more freedom to say as long as I am being nice.
I like the yanks here and it's good to know them too.
Anyway, this place gives me something to do.I am a computer and movie addict -
I didn't. I left. Then came back in alter ego. Who the hell are all you guys?

Habit. Trying to quit videohelp is like trying to quit smoking.

I'm a long time veterin. I've ben here for ages. One thing that
seems to confuse me is the actual birth date of VCDhelp. I've
seen Oct/2000 and even Aug/2000 dates, but I'm not sure. I realize
that in the begining, it was slow, but some time in 2001 (around
the time I joined (March 31, 2001) things were hot all over the
place, and lots of very interesting topics were writen. (I seem to
vagly remember a user, "Shazzam" or something - I forget, but there
were lots of interesting shan-nan-nagins floating around with this
charactor, and they were fun !!
Most of everything was either divX related or VCD/xVCD related
then, including various Template this and that, and if you wanted the
best quality, you were always pointed to a Template.
(oh, the good old days) anyways.
Today, we are in the DVD ERRA (did I spell that right) and its
still kicking around. I remember my first set of macro-blocks umm..
(I mean) my first VCD and I was excited (in a digital kind of way) and
I haven't stopped since. (things/times were different then, and the
macro-blocks (or pixelations) were not as pronounced in an obvious
kind of way then, because we all had narrow (or, limited) knowledge
and tools, as well as skills and insight) So, we don't rant
on the old days - they were perfecly legit
.
For me, my ERRA will always be 2001 !! Everything happend during
that ERRA time.
Now, I'm a guru (in the things of quality) IMO. But, I keep most my main
and prized secrets to myself.. hehe.
Well, there is so much to talk about, but I'll stop here, before I get
too nastalgic :P
