  1. Hey, don't know if this question is really relevant to a VCD related forum but I have nowhere else to ask. I bought an Apex 1500 because I read a lot of good things about the vcd/svcd compatibility. But now I'm having a problem I could've never guessed; normal dvd playback has audio that is half as loud as it should be. I rented The Others, and a few other dvds and the audio plays back at half of what the digital cable or VHS playback is. I tried the dvd player on every television in the house and it's the same on all of them.

I can comfortably watch tv with the volume level at 16 for VHS or digital cable. For dvds, I have to turn it up to 30 and the downside to this is there is noise in the audio from having it this high. Anybody know what the problem is? I've tried playing with all the audio settings in the dvd player setup but nothing. Argh!

PS: it's only offically released dvds that play back quietly, svcds, vcds, and everything else has perfect audio.

  2. I have a pioneer that I have to adjust the sound up, but not to much more than tv or vhs however I don't get the noise your talking about.

It sounds like you got a bad player.

Here is a site devoted for apex players www.nerd-out.com
They have forums search and see if anyone else has the same problem or see if there is some firmware to fix it. My apex ad-3201 has firmware upgrade(s).

    GOOD LUCK
