  1. I have captured a old music video but have a problem with the audio which is distorted in certain places due to it being too loud (I think). I have extracted the audio to a .wav file with virtual dub.
Now what would be a good bit of software to remove the distortions (Normalation ?).

If it is already distorted then normalising it isn't going to fix the problem. Was the original distorted, or is this as a result of the recording you have made ? If it is the original, then I would use Sound Forge and some selective smoothing and filtering to bring back just the distorted areas. Depending on how distoted it is, you may not be able to do much without causing other damage (loss of detail, loss of treble, muddy sound etc)

  3. Thanks.
Seems that the video player i'm using is causing the issues as playing on my new one doesn't have the same problem audio. Now all i got to do is swop them round so i can re do this one tape.....
Think its just a issue with this tape as others seem to be OK. i can see the audio channels dropping on the front of the video display as it has R+L and bars for audio levels.

  4. Problem sorted. It seems that my capture card Hauppauge 250 is a very tight fit in case in terms of the metal strips at the top and bottom. Which were causing the audio plug not to be seated all the way in. Once sorted audio is fine....
