  1. Hiya. I'm currently using TmpGenc Plus to convery my .avi files to mpeg quality. Some of these files have subs that i want to put permanently onto the mpeg file.

The problem is, about a month ago, to convert a file of say, 700MB, it would take 2 hours max. But yesterday it was going for about 8 hours and still only 70% done!
My specs are not terrible(see below for details) and i was wondering if anyone could point me to some software that i could use to convert a file to mpeg, or straight to dvd, quicker. I started to use VSO's DivxToDVD and that is fantastic for speed and quality however it does not support subtitles..... =(

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Specs:

    WindowsXP Professional
    AMD AthlonXP 3200+ (2.1GHz)
    1gb of ram

  2. As your aim is DVD, may I ask you why you want permanent subtitles?

  3. Because i don't want the option to enable/disable subtitles :P

So do you know of any software that fufills my requirements?

  4. Yes, I know. Avisynth + QuEnc. I know also how you can make it so that they are not-permanent, but forced (you can't switch them off AFAIK) and it is easier, but if you want permanent, then go for it...
BTW, why you don't want them to enable/disable? Maybe you are forcing somebody to learn foreign language?

  5. Hehe yeh actually! lol nice guess buddy!

About the program, its not as user friendly as i'd like tbh. Do you know of any other programs that does what i want it to?

I've searched online but i don't know which one is fast enough for me! speed is my utmost requirment.

Dvd2svcd lets you encode permanent subs.

  7. Well, the easiest way I think is to go with VSO DivxtoDVD for encoding and after that to re-author the files with something like DVDLab PRO including the subs and mark them forced subtitles. So this would be fast enough and worth to try IMO.
