playing svcd on my pc that has xp loaded....please help

I am trying to watch a svcd on my pc that has xp
it will not play
i am using windows media player and have tried powerdvd
anyone have any suggestions
i did post this in the wrong forum earlier
i apologize
it has been a while since i have posted

one thing to keep in mind
i have only tried this svcd on xp, no other OS yet

I use windvd and sthsvcd player on xp with no problems, you can get the later free from this site. You can buy windvd for about $10 on line, get the older version 2.3 or 2.6, they both work fine. I have powerdvd 3.0 and it does not play vcd's, I think 4.0 does.

You have to download the XP patch from Cyberlink for PowerDVD to work correctly in XP. After that, it works just fine, I've been using it without problems.

just to make sure we are on the same page with powerdvd
version 3.0 will not work at all, no patch or anything like that available.
version 4.0 will work if you have a patch

I'm using PowerDVD XP without any problem (and patch) on Windows XP professional.

It plays everything!

i am a little confused
U are using powerdvd(which version) and u do or do not have the patch.
when you say it plays everything, you are talking about svcd as well

i also have dvdpower 4.0 and xp. but i can't play a svcd in my cd-rom. do you needs a dvd-rom to play
