"Windows Media Player cannot open. You may need to reboot to complete installation of a downloaded component. Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try again."

Did you make sure to select 'direct stream copy' in VDM before you ripped it? Or, you could try opening the ripped file in Media Player Classic, as it has a built-in AC decoder.

Try to open the file in DVD Architect to check if the file is really corrupted. I have the same problem here. My AC-3 filter is installed and windows refuses to open AC-3s. Openning these files with DVDA - that I use to author my DVDs - is a piece of cake and therefore shows that they are neither corrupted nor broken, etc.

  6. Try to convert the ripped AC3 file to some other format like MP2, MP3 or WAV using BeSweet or HeadAC3he. If it converts properly then its OK.
