Trouble burning DVD+R at 16X

I have been burning movies (VIDEO_TS folders) successfulyfor some time to 4X DVD-R discs using my Quicksilver G4 and an external Formac 4X DVD Burner. I recently bought a Mac Mini and just bought the new Lightscribe LaCie DVD+/-R, DL burner to use with the Mini. My plan was to take advantage of this burner's ability to burn DVD+R at 16X. So far I have had only errors within a minute of starting the burn on these (Memorex) 16X DVD+R blanks. When I examine the discs, it looks as though no burn was started. Typically, 3 successive errors are displayed on the screen and then the burner kicks out the disc. I have no trouble using DVD-R discs at 8X with the Mini and the La Cie burner. I am really puzzled and frustrated and don't want to waste any more of these 16X discs. I am using OS X 10.3.8 and Toast 6.0.9. My Mac Mini is the 1.25 GHz model. Is there something that I don't know?

Hi, I hate to point to a brand first (Memorex) but I've had trouble with them and I have a similar burner from LaCie (Porsche model) 16x DL. I stay with the dvd-r and not the + and also I use Verbatium or TDK brand discs. Is this the only change you've made and did you try to slow the burn speed down with the + type media?

I wasted $300 on memorex DVD+R and memorex DVD-R....no joke.....return what you can, while you can.
