  1. Hello. I am trying to get a DVD+R movie to work on my Playstation 2 (a relativly old one). I am almost certain that my choice of media is not a problem, judging by your media ratings. I am using DVD-Lab to burn the DVD, and another program to change the bitsetting. The DVD works but is quite jerky. This problem occurs with other burnt DVD's (with the same set-up) as well. It works fine on standalone DVD players. I am using an Emprex 16 speed dual layer writer (no model code found) with the latest firmware. I am pritty sure there are a posibility of two problems. Number 1 - The DVD-Video was encoded at a high bitrate (7mbps average) and it is too high for the Playstation 2 to cope. I am using Dolby Digital (official not AC3) audio at a bitrate of 224kbps. Number 2 - I am using DVD+R media, DVD-R media might solve the problem. I am trying to save time and media here by not trying it out for myself and not re-encoding the film at say 6mbps until I am pritty sure I know the problem. I was wondering if anyone knows which problem it is or thinks they know another thing wrong with it.

Early Playstation 2's did not support any type of DVDr media officially, so don't expect too much. Spend $20 and get a proper DVD player, save yourself a lot of heartache that way.

  4. actually,my early ps2 supported dvd+r more than dvd-r.
seems it liked the strangest media though(apple dvd+r).
    never seen them again.
but now ive got a pioneer 108/109,and its not bothered about media as long as its not princo or a like minded pos media.
you might have better luck with dvd-r media, but try dvddecrypter and rip an iso of the disc, and copy it iso write,it may just work fine.

  5. Lots of PS2 topics. Did you search first?

    + or - for films
    - for games.
V9 or under. V9+ can use either for games.

  6. I seemed to have fixed the problem by reducing the bitrate to 7mbps Max and 6mbps average and changing to Verbatim DVD-R media, thanks. Now I have another problem, the video occasionally freezes for about 15 seconds on a standalone DVD player in about 3 sections of the movie, where as it worked fine before. It is not jerky on the computer. I have searched on the forum for jerky video topics but none seem to help. Here is the process that I've used -
    1. Compress to M2V and AC3 files through Adobe Premiere 1.5
    2. Author DVD using DVD-Lab, although I did not add a menu
    3. Create IMG file using DVD-Lab
    4. Burn IMG file through DVD Decrypter
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
