    Hello Everyone,

I am trying to help some friends out and re-edit some DVD's made from VHS tapes. The original menus do not operate very well, and since I have TMPGEnc, I thought I'd try and redo them

I originally thought I'd make an AVI from the DVD and just edit that using DVD2AVI, for some reason I could not make an AVI file. I also couldn't copy this DVD for some reason. It' has the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS subdirectories.

If you've done this kind of re-editing before, I'd sure appreciate being point in the right direction.

    Thanks,

    Hal

I wouldn't convert the format if all you want to do is make new menus. You could extract the MPEGs from the VOBs with VOB2MPG and re-author without losing any quality. Even if you need to edit the MPEG, I would leave it in that format and use a MPEG editor. Re-encoding it twice will just reduce whatever quality you have even further.

I'm guessing it might have been made on a DVD recorder and that may be part of your problem with extracting it. You could try DVD Decrypter if VOB2MPG won't work.

I have DVD Decrypter, I'll try that if I need to.

Also, I forgot, but I tried using TMPGEnc to edit the original DVD, but I could not import the data for some reason. Maybe it's the DVD recorder issue you sited above.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Are you talking about TMPGEnc OR TDA (TMPGEnc DVD Author) ?

You can just rip the disc , VIDEO_TS folder to your HDD, import that into TDA and make your menu's, set chapter points, edit out unwanted footage, ect.
    Fast, Simple & Easy!!!!!!
