  1. Are DVD recorders generally able to record and play back UK teletext subtitles? Or are there specific models, as with VHS recorders, that will do this? I'm trying to research this for a hard of hearing relative. I did do a search but nothing specifically came up that answered this question.
    Thanks

  2. I recently tried to "sell" a DVD recorder to my parents after I have found my own one a valuable improvement over previous arrangements (ie VHS -and millions of un-named tapes!).
I expounded upon their virtues vis-a-vis chapter thumbnails, random access, skipping ads, time-shift recording etc...in other words features that average consumers in their 60's and 70's are likely to want - and then I was asked the inevitable - can you record subtitles?
Ummm, checked this site out - and as others have obviously done beforehand trawled the net for clues.
I get the impression that if a machine has a freeview tuner on board then it is at least capable but still not necessarily so - depending on firmware, I imagine. They don't make a thing of advertising the feature, so only trial and error on each model can possibly tell us if they will do this or not. Experience tells me that the average assistant at Dixons, Comet or even an independent isn't likely to have even the foggiest notion.
Perhaps we could lobby the list moderator here to include this functionality on features lists?
