I've spent a week compiling my first DVD project with TDA... finished last night, installed my brand new LiteOn SOHW-1673s, and the Nero Express 6 that came bundled with it.

When it came time to burn, I noticed that Nero Exp 6 greyed out the speed selection button and chose 2x automatically. I have some cheap media to start with (1x) but thought I'll give it a try anyway. Not surprisingly, it did not get past the Lead-in stage and i ended up with 3 coasters in a row.

Naturally i want to try burning at 1x, but Nero willl not let me choose the speed.. what's going on? why did it pick 2x ??

Pls help... I'm dying to complete my first project - I've spent weeks on it!!!

You diagnosed your own problem. Get some high-quality media.

well, i meant cheap as in 1x, not as in low quality...

so the blanks are rated 1x, and Nero automatically selects 2x and will not give me the option of lowering the recording speed.... hope that is clearer

I've also since read users' comments here on Nero Express and it appears that this software may well be the culprit. maybe I should get another burning app ??

okay... just to let everyone know - problem solved.

it was Nero, it wasn't the media. I tried using TDA's burning capability; it's pretty bare, anfd doesn't tell you much of what's going on, but boy! perfect DVD's every time!!!

I'm a TDA fan now... its great for authoring, lets you do nice menus, and it burns the dvd too!

(by the way, my very first disk was a mixed one - one track full DVD mpeg2, and another with vcd resolution mpeg1, and it all works like magic)
