    Hi,
I have little problem with the XVID codec. I've just bought new hard drive and reinstalled all the programs including XVID codec and when I compress the wideo it s seems _slightly_ darker than the original footage. Maybe I wrongly configurated XVID? What possibly could cause such problem? It is not extremely dark but in comparision ot the orginal DV footage it is quite easily noticable. Thx for any suggestions.

ps. The same footage compressed by DIVX seems OK.

XviD should have no effect on the brightness, although changing colourspaces during the conversion may.

More likely it is a playback issue.

You might want to try the AviSynth plugin "ColorMatrix", which is supposed to compensate for the brightness issues.

"ColorMatrix corrects the colors of MPEG-2 streams of dvds. More correctly, many MPEG-2 streams use slightly different coefficients (called Rec.709) for storing the color information than AviSynth's color conversion routines or the XviD/DivX decoders (called Rec.601) do, with the result that DivX/XviD clips or MPEG-2 clips encoded by TMPGEnc/QuEnc are displayed with slighty off colors (which looks like a small difference in brightness). This can be checked by opening the MPEG-2 stream directly in VDubMod."
