Could I ask recommendations on DVD recorders that users have had good luck with the tuner (NSTC)?

I need to get the signal off the coxial and internal tuner, and not form the cable converter box.

    TIA

    Sorry, maybe I should clarify..

I tried serveral models like LiteOn and the built in tuner was not good. I then read online it is know to be of lower quality.

The tuners on these accept the signal from the RF coxial, but I realize might not be as good as "off the box" signal.

I am looking for recommendations on the best tuner...

    TIA

  4. why even use a tuner? them suckas degrade the A/V quality like a mutha. why not just use the Line In's and get stereo sounds and preserve the video

I will often need my Tivo and DVD recorder working at the same time, using the cable box for the Tivo

  6. My limited experience (3-4 brands) tells me that Sony has the best tuners around. But I live in PAL land so I can't say anything for sure about NTSC.

A VCR has a good tuner usually, run it via composite or s-video to the recorder.

  8. Why are tuners so bad on on DVD recorders?

  9. The tuner on my dvdr77 is just like any found on a common VCR.
Stereo audio with no change in picture quality. Also has RF converter
built in so it will display on channel 3 if you want. Tuners on some other
brands that I've seen just don't cut it for one reason or another.
