Am I better off caprturing to my boot drive which has 60 GB free or to a separate RAID 1 drive on a different computer?
The RAID 1 drive is on a slower but dedicated computer networked through switch through a 100 mbps connection.

Transfering from a DV from a camcorder using the network drive would not work well since you are limited to 100mbps (about 12.5 MB/s). If you are ripping a DVD you would be limited to ~10x or less. I can not speak for capture (video/tv) cards.
I would recommend using the 60GB drive, or preferably, add a second drive to the main computer. Best Buy often had Western Digital & Hitachi drives on sale for cheap with rebates. Be advised that these drives can get hot (especially the larger drives), so make sure you have good airflow. Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think. -
ALWAYS use the fastest connection when capturing, which is the hdd in the same computer, either the boot or dedicated.

I am considering using a second Maxtor 160 GB Serial ATA to the main capture computer.
Can I set this to DMA?
