ok guys i need some help. does someone know the basic speed specs dvd shrink takes when your encoding on a hard drive.

i have sata hard drives. defrag all the time.

for some reason it only ecodeds at about 1200.

there has got to be a faster way.

    current system:

    amd 3200
    2 gigs memory
    36 gig raptor sata
    250gig sata

is there some way to optimize this better.

    thanks

What's the rush? The invention of transcoding (in comparision to reencoding) brought the DVD9 to DVD5 process down by 3/4, not to mention all reauthor work that's not needed anymore.
That said, you can only wait for faster CPUs. Possibly having source and dest on different physical drives, on different IDE channels might improve matters somewhat.

and becuase i have a friend with a slower system and he is able to do a full movie rip and encode in 35 minutes.

and i can figure out whats going on
min rips ok its jus the encode part thats slow and i dont put into backup mode either.

plus i am impatient and always looking to fasster better ways.

OK, that's abiut what times I'm getting too. (~30 min for a full DVD9 to DVD5) How long does it take on your system? "around 1200 doesn't tell me anything, I'm afraid...)

    it takes over an hour
and i cant figure out wy

    ok figureed out y

i can speed it up with default settings
i found its taking over 90 min if i choose deep anaylsys and the picture quality setting

    thanks for the reply

ok when i am running a movie thru dvd shrink already ripped to hd

its taking less than a minute for the analysing
and for the encoding default settings no deep anaylsis or that second option for better picture its taking about 25 minutes just for the encoding but then the burning takes awhile @4 times.

I think this is his average encode rate, as reported by DVD Shrink. This would be normal for a title requiring fairly heavy compression, but slow for a title requiring no compression.

but i am doing the whole movie with extras and menu.

then how do pepole do a complete rip and burn in 30 minutes

i have a amd 3200 with 2 ggis of ram and sata drives

and my friend only has amd 2500 with 1gig and not sata

i would think i am faster

  8. Do you have DMA enabled?
Use Nero Info Tool to check.

  9. Your friend with "only" 1gig and not sata shouldnt be much slower. 2 gig of memory will not help, and Sata isnt that great, no miracles should be expected. The "best" thing is your Raptor drive, that one should speed things up a bit. If your CPU is AMD 64 3200 you should have a noticeable higher speed than your friend, if yours is an XP or Sempron 3200 theres not so much difference.

Anyway, if its so very slow when doing it directly from the DVD, make sure your DVD reader is set to DMA mode, you'll find lots of threads about it here if ya search.

Ripping speed from your DVD-ROM might be letting you down.
    If in doubt, Google it.
