  1. When I mount an image of a certain DVD using daemon tools for playback with media player classic the playback is perfect, however when I try to burn that same image to a DVD, with either DVD Decrypter, CopytoDVD or Nero the playback will skip and then freeze up. I have tried 2 different types of media Ritek and Taio Youden as well as 2 different burners (Liteon SOHW812S and BenQ 1620) all with the same results. Is this just a bad image. Should I see the same flaws on a iso image as I get on the burnt DVD? I am a newbie at burning DVDs but really find this fustrating. I have encoded and burnt many VCD and SVCD with very few problems in the past. Any ideas would be appriecated. Thanks

9 times out 10 these issues are down to media, however ty has a great rep here, and I have never had issues with Ritek, regardless of claims here. If we rule out media for the moment, other things to look at are format -r and +R don't always play in al players, and even some media brands don't play well in some players. Bitrate can also play a part. If it is too high, you get stuttering and freezing while the player struggles to process too much data.

    What to do

    1. use a s/w player to playback from the hdd. most have an information function that will show bitrate during playback. if this consistently high (9+), this may be the problem.

    2. Run DVD Info Pro's read test on the DVD and look for read errors. This will tell you if you have bad media or bad burn.

    3. Run Nero's CD Speed test on the DVD. Look for a nice, constant rise in the chart. If you get any jaggies or sharp dips, then you have a problem with the disk.

    4. Look up your player in the list on the left, and see what others are saying about it and the media you used. Might be a compatability problem.

  3. Thank you guns1inger. That was exactly the problem. TmpgEnc's DVDAuthor was the only software that warned me that the bitrate exceeded the DVD standard. Do you know if there is any free apps that will preform this check before I try and burn the DVD?
