  1. Alright I'm converting from AVI to DVD with DVD2SVCD and I'm tired of burned in subs. I've been doing the easy burned in way and authoring with TMPG DVD Author BUT I've started using DVD Lab which lets you input a sub stream.

Under the "Subtitle" tab in DVD2SVCD I chose: Rip Subtitles, DVD Subtitles and I have two questions with this.

    1. I've heard that "SVCD subtitles" actually will only work on SOME dvd players. But I'm doing a conversion to DVD so I get the "DVD Subtitles" instead, do these work on most DVD players or only a select few like "SVCD Subtitles"? i.e. stick to perm subbing.

    2. I don't make images in DVD2SVCD I author the demuxed streams and have to convert the mp2 to ac3. The audio and video demuxed I can find perfectly as always... but where's my subtitle stream to author with? In my subs folder I have "en1-1.sub (this is the one I'm guessing? But it wouldn't play with vobsub), en1-1.txt, en1-1.xml"

do you get a sub/ifo file? then convert it to srt with subrip and then import it in dvd-lab pro.

or convert directly from the dvd to a srt sub file using subrip.

(click on subrip for a guide)

  5. Oh I wasn't aware DVD Lab took subrip, I know how to do that. Thanks

But do you know the answer to the first question? Do the "DVD subs" usually work with most DVD players? Or are they just like "SVCD subs" and hardly work with any DVD players?

  7. If you mean DVD subs from DVD2SVCD settings the most people don't know cause I (they) don't know what D2S understands under "DVD subs".
Every DVD authoring programm treat the subs differently as source - the output should be the same.
