One of my Pioneer 104s is actually branded Cendyne but it's still a Pioneer 104, does that count? Other than that I'm too picky to get anything that isn't a good brand, and to that I owe how stable all the PCs I built are

one of my PC cases is the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen.....
it's an Antec knock-off and it sucks BAD
the front bezel keeps falling off and none of the bay covers will stay in
the leads for the Power button, Reset button, front USB, and drive activity LEDS are all separate (as in, not a plug) and none of them are marked or labled in any way at all -- putting the PC together was sooooooo much fun, NOT!
also, one of the sides keeps falling off.......

BJ_M: you're wrong I'm afraid. BenQ manufacturers them...Philips doesn't. I think they provide the chipset, but that's it. For example, my Philips 8631 is a redbadged BenQ1620 -- not the other way around. It has a BenQ1620 label on the drive, when it was manufactured, etc. There's no mention of Philips, plus the bezel is identical to my OEM BenQ.

As Ma_Jie has pointed out the BENQ 1620 uses a PHILIPS chipset but it is not a REBADGED PHILIPS drive. PIONEER uses a NEC chipset but it isn't a REBADGED NEC drive. :P

The Sounblaster Audigy 2 Drive (live drive).

Its exactly the same as all the other soundblaster drives including the Audigy 1 and Live (with the exception of different cable connectors, which means if you upgarde your sound card, you cannot use your eixting drive for the sound card).

all over the net and also in our dvd specs to the left it says they are phillips ..

    so I believed it ..

no mater what they are -- it seems like a nice drive .. and well built, time will tell ..
$79 CND right now at futureshop retail box (why i got one) with book set and nero express .. in glossy black

BJ_M: why buy from FS? You can buy DT (downtown College-Spadina) area for at least $10-12 cheaper.

It's time to update the stuff on the left, but ask the people over @ CDFREAKS if you have any more questions. Those guys practically know as much as the BenQ engineers.

    - Jie

EDIT: Canada Computers, where I bought my OEM BenQ, has both black and biege for $66.99 + tax.

Heh. When i built my current Pc i used one of the new Model Intel Celeron D processors, that have 256k L2 cache(2.8Ghz btw).

Which is basically a knockoff of yesterdays Pentium 4, at todays celeron prices

Also the motherboard i specifically selected with my current Pc has no AGP slot, but instead has intergrated graphics. Which some might say is a knockoff videocard.
