  1. I own a Philips dvp642 player which supports MPEG4. I create a movie within Nero Recode on a CD and when I try to play it on my Philips it won't play?

It will play ok on my computer with nero media player.

First, make certain that Nero Recode is not using its AVC codec: Try the Standard setting -- click the *more* button on Recode's first screen to select *Standard setting* under *Nero Digital Profile*

Second, on the Burn Settings Screen (the next screen), click on the *Nero Digital Settings* button, then the *Advanced* selection under MPEG-4 encoder settings. Then tick *Simple profile (Quicktime Compatible File)*

I find that the above settings ensure that Nero Recode MP4 files will play back on most platforms BUT this still may not help for the Philips, but it is worth a try. Otherwise, you may have to use Xvid or Divx files.

  4. Well I tried it this weekend and got the same results it would not play. I was thinking could it be the media I am using? I might try it with a much better media disc and see if that resolves the issue.

I doubt it is the media you are using, but it may be how the CD is written, for example is it ISO with 8.3 file names? Is it finalized?

My recommendation would be to make a Divx 5 file, and see if that will play on the Philips. If the Divx 5 CD doesn't play, then it may be how you are burning your discs that is the issue. But it is likely that your DVD player will never play Nero Recode files, and it is not certified to do so.

NeroVision Express will make Divx 5 or Xvid files, but there is better software available to do that.

    Cheers

  6. Hey I got a response from Ahead about my problem. It seems their version of MPEG4 is not of the standard nature. They claim their codec is totally different and they will only play on the players that but a license to bear the Nero Logo. Goes to show you money is the name of the game so they should say mpeg4N or something else to disquish between their and standard mpeg4. Thanks for all of the info and help guys.
