Can't access a site...very frustrating.

Ok, I am trying to access a specific site and 80% of the time I can with no problems. But for some reason I go through these periods where I get a page could not be found check the name and try again error in firefox and something similar in IE. I tried pinging the site using the command prompt in Windows and it says the same thing. Resetting the modem and router doesn't help and neither does hooking directly into the modem. I can't tell if it's my ISP or a setting on my computer or something.

If its just that site, then it almost certianly is not your computer.

It may just be the website host is unreliable or is overloaded with traffic.

Well I contacted the host who I know pretty well and he went through the site with a fine tooth comb and couldn't see any reason on his end that would prevent my access to it. However, I am now starting to think that there is definitely something with site since I can access fine when I'm at work or on another computer but sometimes it gets goofy on my computer at home.

it has to do with the servers you're hitting in between

not much you can do besides running a proxy

What and how do I run a proxy? I can't access the website from either computer in our house.

I had this happen to me. It was caused by the Zone Alarm firewall program.

Well that's what I thought too. I shut it down but maybe I should just uninstall it and see if that works.

Well, not zone alarm. I uninstalled it and still the same problem.

FF:tools>options>connection settings>manual proxy>enter ip and port...just http should do ya

IE:tools>internet options>connections>lan settings>advanced>again use http
