  1. Is there any software that can remove a constant monotone background hum from a video ? The video is in the form of an mpeg-2 file. The audio part of the video consists of 2 people speaking to one another. The hum is most noticeable when neither one is speaking and there should be silence. I've considered Adobe Audition but it is rather pricey and
has more features than I require.

  2. Yea, adobe audition is what I use for this. Does the trick perfectly in most cases. Once though, I couldn't remove a noise because it was a fan rite near the microphone and it was actually louder than the main voices, so when the noise reduction was applied it made the people sound like they were under water.

  3. pinnacle Studio 9 has some vst plugins available that help with this as well. This usually happens from an external mic.

  4. I have been successful in using Goldwave to remove tape hum from the audio track. My process for doing this is demuxing the streams and running the audio through Golwave's filters. I then remux the streams and the everything is good-to-go. I use TMPGenc for the mux'ing.

  5. Thanks, guys, for the great tips. The amount of software out there is pretty overwhelming. Now I have a nice short list of proven software to choose from.
