Hey I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get the following brand of discs discounted from anywhere? I saw these at Best Buy and have currently been using them, but for $22 for 25 discs thats kind of expesive. Any help would be...well helpful =) Thanks.

I really really really would like these and wouldnt mind buying them in 25, 50, 100, 250, or 500 quanities. However if you know of any places that sell other 4x DVD-Rs in either TDK, Sony, or Verbatim brands, Id also be willing to check those out. Thanks.

  2. Yeah, you're getting ripped off at that price. You can get Fuji in 50 packs for $20/ 100 packs for $40 at Best Buy every other week, they'll be of similar quality if you buy the Made in Japan discs.

Yea I felt like I was getting raped. So should I only buy discs made in Japan. Cause I picked up these ones that I have made by TDK and there made in Taiwan

  4. Download DVDInfoPro. Check the media codes of your discs with it. Search for those media codes in the 'DVD Media' section to your left for user reviews.

Essentially all made in Japan media is of excellent quality, but alot of media made in Taiwan is excellent as well. Some of the best discs I've ever used are RICOHJPNR01 media code, made in Taiwan, as well as others.

  5. I get my media from www.supermediastore.com I've been happy with the price and they have most quality brands of DVD+-R. Out of 200 Optodisc (printable media) burns, I only experienced one bad burn out of the pack. Their shipping has been prompt and reliable. Anyone else have a good source?

So what exactlly is this DVDInfoPro thing? Sorry Im a little lost. Does it tell you where your disc was made? Or Does it tell you if its good (however, you judge a good or bad disc is beyond me.) Sorry if I sound stupid. Im still familiarizing myself with this site.

Oh by the way do any of you know where to get a cheap 500 bundle of thick Double Disc Cases with a sleeve to put a title page in at a cheap price? So far the cheapest Ive found was $135.

  8. No problem. It's just a utility you can download that has several useful features, among them it tells you the 'media code' of a disc. A media code is the code written on all discs that tells you who actually manufactures the discs. 'Verbatim', 'Fuji', 'Memorex' are just brands, who actually makes the discs is another story altogether. And a brand will often use several different manufacturers for their discs.

DVDInfoPro also tells you the model and firmware version of your burner, tests discs for readability and burn quality, etc.

Download it and then look up your media codes in the media list on the left, between that and a search in the media forum you'll quickly get an idea of what works well for people and what doesn't.

You said it tells you the model and firmware version of your burner. When I think of burner I think of a computer DVD burner, not a DVD recorder. So with this also be useful with my DVD record. Thanks.

Hey Steve you see like your an insominac like me, whenever I write a question you answer it in a snap of thumbs. I vote for you to be head Admin on this server....seriously! But hey do you have AIM or AOL, Id love to chat with you sometime about all this digital stuff. You seem like you have a lot of knowledge on such stuff and I too would like to become as familiar are you are with all this stuff. However, if your rather just talk here thats cool to, whatever the case, thanks for all your help!

  10. Yeah, it's late here :P. Working on the computer at the moment anyway, just helping you to figure out things more quickly while I'm working.

Yes, 'burner' is intended to describe a computer's burner, not a standalone recorder. DVDInfo is mainly for checking different aspects of your discs.

I'm not much for Instant Messaging, although I could use it or PM if you need more help. Posting here is fine for most of this discussion as it will be available for others to read. Search engine is your friend

Good point about the search engine, in fact Im going to go catch up on old times with her right now and see what other cool stuff I can learn from this site.

By the way Im thinking about making the step from Analog to Digital cable for the extra $10 a month and wanted to ask you some question about Digital Cable, but Im really tired and my thoughts are all over the place. However Im PM you later or make a post so other people can also see.

    Thanks again Steve! You Rock!

  12. Sam's Club by me has been carrying the Verbatim 1-8x spindles of 100 for 44 bucks. Convenient source for cheap, reliable DVD-Rs for me.

  13. Best Buy has Fuji 8x discs once or twice a month for $20/50. Look for made in Japan on the spindles, they are TY, good discs. They don't store well on the spindles though, if using cases or sleeves they are fine.
