I believe an older version of VirtualDub would convert asf files, but I don't recall if it supported the newer mp4 format.

As far as I can fathom the MP43 is a microsoft format that [from my recent experience] wont open in pretty much anything I can throw it at

I can open it in my media players but not in any of the encoders I am using

This truly is a pain is the asf

  4. Okay thusfar I have tried to convert the asf to either an mpeg or avi with various encoders (the latest being STOIK 2.1 with which I coverted the asf to avi) and the resultant avi file has sound but no picture?

    Again, any ideas?

  5. My lastest move was to try opening the asf in the 1.3 version of virtualdub (it is meant to allow asf files) but I got an error message saying ASF: Data Chunk Not Found

    Anyone???

    MP43 = MS MPEG4 v3 = DivX311alpha.

ffdshow can handle decoding it, then it should convert fine via anything that uses dshow.

    YOU ARE THE MAN!!! LOL

I downloaded ffdshow and after 15 mins of trying to figure out 'how to use it' a quick google search told me it was a codec thingy 'or summink' lol, ahem lol

Anyhoo now Tmpgenc will open both of my asf files and I am now going to convert then as I please!

Virtuadub still wont open them though, but to be honest I am more than happy right now

Fair play this game can be a pain in the arse cant it? lol

Thanks alot mate, where were you yesterday? lol

(I dont suppose you now how to set the frame rate to 25fps in HC do you? or does it do it automatically when I selcet PAL before encoding?)

HC doesn't have framerate settings does it?

    Assuming an AVISynth source, so:
    directshowsource("whatever.wmv",fps=25)

No I dont think it does, that is where I was getting worried about what the frame rate of the finished MPEG2 would be
