Set top DIVX players.... dead?

I was digging through the thrift store a few weeks ago and found a Proscan DVD player that is advertised to play DIVX. I coughed up the $5 and did a search here for it. It doesn't seem like there is much interest in these things now. The player itself works well and played a DVD -RW disk I have. But its the DIVX part of the equation that makes me wonder. Is this DIVX craze a thing of the past already?

Different DIVX. That RCA was part of a pay-per-play scheme by circuit city that died a quick and justifiable death!!!

Ah, I was worried about this. So my set top DIVX player won't play the "current" DIVX files that are so popular?

The new MPEG-4 video format is known as 'DivX'

I worked for circuit city when DIVX came out. Man was that a bad idea. I dont even remember selling any of them. People looked at me crosseyed when I informed them of hooking it up to the phoneline in order to watch movies.

I am surprised you found one I didnt even think any of them had been sold. You might want to hold onto it as it could be worth something someday...lol

BTW, the Divx/Xvid formats are still very popular and you can get a nice set top player for under $100.

Thanks guys. I knew no difference in DIVX and Divx. Not a bad basic player though. Plays even my -RW stuff.
