just a quick question does macrovision have to be removed in the firmware on both player and recorder or will it work if it is just removed in the recorder? I have a apex 1010w player with no hacked firmware and i want to copy a dvd to a ilo dvdrho4 with hacked firmware will this work?

If it was hacked to remove it from the recorder then it should record a signal with MV.

If you have the ILO HD04, the hack disables the recorders ability to sense the MV signal, so you can use any source (VHS, DVD,etc.)
Just to clarify, MV isn't removed from the signal, just ignored. If you record a DVD into the ILO, it will ignore the MV and allow it. But if you took that recorded dvd, played it on another DVD player into a non-hacked recorder, it would, again, not allow it to be recorded since the MV signal is still there.
