  1. I have a video that I want to send out to family and friends (about 30 copies needed) that is 5:45 in length. It sits on my hard drive in the .avi format and is 1.22 GB in size. I have used Ulead Movie Factory 2 to convert it and burn it onto a DVD-R disc where it compresses down into 191MB on the DVD disc.
My question is this: is it possible to burn the video onto a less expensive CD and not waste all that space on the more costly DVD-R? I want it to play in everyone's DVD player like the DVD-R would because not all the recipients have computers, and I want to maintain the DVD image quality of the 720 X 480 picture. Thanks.

  2. You CAN create a 'mini DVD' on CD. But very few standalones will play them.

    marceggers,

It may be less expensive to burn to CDr than to DVDr, but relatively...it doesn't make a difference.

If you figure the cost of putting into a mailer (sleeve or case), the cost of postage and then look at the cost of a CDr at $.05-.10, or a DVDr at $.20 - $.50 ... the cost of the media is nothing in the overall cost of producing and mailing. With a MUCH higher likelyhood of compatability, I'd say the choice is made.

You can easily get some 1x DVDr that comes awfully close to CDr prices. With less than six minutes to burn, who cares if its 1x or 8x?
    Have a good one,

You can always create a SVCD that will be near the quality of your original and will play on most, but not all, players. It fits on a CD.
