VIDEO_TS to divx with 5.1 ac3 passthru? is this possible? I can't get it to work. the VIDEO_TS will play in Apple DVD Player and VLC, but ffmpegX won't play the audio or passthru the 5.1 ac3. stereo ac3 works fine.

  2. mencoder currently only supports stereo ac3 in AVI. You may use ffmpeg but it needs VOB as input.

thanks major, I'll give that a shot. does it have to vob, or can it be mpeg?

  4. The input for ffmpeg engine may be vob as well as mpg.

  5. This might answer my other question: ac3 files have to be stereo in order to be heard even if it's just being muxed and not encoded? That would explain why I'm not getting sound in my QT files at least. They were all 5.1 files.

  6. I don't quite understand the question. If you try to play a MPG file with AC3 audio in Quicktime Player you will never hear sound as Quicktime Player does not decode AC3 in MPG or VOB files.

  7. Yeah, I meant AAC, but I might have tried to mux an ac3 file when I was starting out, like a week ago. I'm still very green, but I did learn right off to send AAC or mp3 audio to get a QT mov.

  8. What good is the attached file for Quicktime then, as I thought it would help decode AC3 files.

    AC3 Codec.component

  9. It decodes AC3 in AVI files only.

  10. Is there a cheatsheet or list of what is compatible with what? I'm just two weeks into digital video, and the biggest problem I have is which formats are compatible with which formats. On my home system, I have a folder of like 75-80 different codecs (not all are loaded, obviously--by the way, is there a codec managing program for the PC anywhere?) Here at work, I go between 3 or 4 different programs with which I have had varying degrees of success. In the manual, there is a nice list of codecs, but I need a comprehensive list of codecs with complimentary other codecs, filters, players, etc. and then a list of conflicting codecs/filters/players, etc.

    Does that even exist?
