  1. I transfered a miniDV tape from my samsung SCD23 camcorder via firewire to my computer. Using Sony Vegas's capture. During the capture, the sound and video were fine, but afterwords, it was all messed up - the sound was slow, and the image was messed up (checkerboard, as if the grid was messed up)

After the capture was complete, I right clicked the file in windows xp and got the properties, it was listed as a 25FPS 720x576. I assume thats PAL, but the original DV was shot in NTSC, (I don't have an option to change it on the camera - its always ntsc)

Is there an easy way to fix this? (some utility perhaps?) I ended up re-capturing the whole hout with windows movie maker and it was fine, but I'd like to save the hour next time. (and better understand what happened)

As far as I can tell, vegas capture was setup to 29.97 fps, and on the advanced screen all the options were greyed out so I couldnt do anything with them anyway (I assume if I had a sony camcorder there would be better control?)

Thanks in advance to anyone who posts a reply - I appreciate your help!

Use WinDV - It's free, small, easy to use and reliable.

Strange how Vegas appears to have tampered with the file. Usually, transferring from DV cam to PC is just that - a transfer. No effect on the original footage.

The stats you quote are PAL.

Like I say, try WinDV and check the info on the file that captures... If your cam is NTSC, then the DV AVI will (should) be NTSC too.
