I'm going to my hometown this vacation. Its a 4 hour drive from the city im working to my hometown. Maybe ill take a bus since im too lazy to drive. is it safe to bring my computer along... Im worried that my cpu(especially my HD) and/or monitor will be damaged by the bumps and vibration in the car or bus. What precautions should i take? how will i pack my PC so it will not be damaged during my travel? Should I remove the HD and place in my bag or something? I don't know if i still have the original box and the styro foam that came with my PC when i bought it.

jeez..so cautious..what do you think they made laptop's for? to be durable and portable...the only thing u have to worry about is dropping the thing. and even then most of the time they still work unless it was a really really ugly drop stop being so careful and start using your laptop

I wouldn't worry much. I lug my new workstation to LAN parties hours away still. And that's travelling in my car, aka the Ballistic Brick, so the only cushion the PC is getting is what it can get from the back seat cushions. I'd probably recommend either packing it so it can travel upright, or probably better yet on its side with the board facing up so that you aren't straining your sockets/cards/etc. on the board itself. Hard drives are actually pretty robust, you have to give them the "belly flop drop" to really mess 'em up. If you wrap your case in a blanket or two it'll be plenty safe for a trip unless you're planning some serious off-roading.

With the monitor just make sure to protect the glass. Get a sheet of plastic wrap over the front of it and then something like a piece of cardboard to keep objects from putting too much pressure in one area or scratching the glass.

none the less desktops can take a beating too as long as they're not on. just think about how many fed ex and ups guys tried to beat the living crap out of your components before u got them i'd be more worried about the moniter than anything else. i wouldnt go as far as to start taking stuff apart.

  10. My sons' computer survived a trip from Pennsylvania to California. We put the computer on the floor and the monitor on the seat of his pickup with a seatbelt around it. The truck was on a trailer so I know it did a lot of bouncing around.
